About Starr, SC
Starr is a small community of about 165 residents (2020 Census) located roughly 10 miles from Anderson via SC-81.
Originally settled in the late 1830s as “Twiggs,” the town was officially chartered in 1888 and renamed Starr for railroad official Capt. W.W. Starr. It was once a hub on the Charleston and Western Carolina Railway. Historic sites in the area include the one-room Old Shiloh School and the Strickland Grocery Store, which operated from 1894 to 1947. Iva, another community we serve, is about 8.5 miles south via SC-81.
